Elizabeth Angle, a 16-year-old soccer player for FC Dallas, was sledding with two other teenagers amid the snowy weather. The teens were being pulled by a 16-year-old male driving a Jeep Wrangler when they collided with a tree.
First responders arrived to find both girls with life-threatening injuries. They were rushed to local hospitals, where Angle died from her injuries. The other injured teen remains in critical condition.

“I saw a Jeep turning off of one of the streets here when I was walking my dog. And there were two girls sledding behind the vehicle, being pulled. And the Jeep accelerated really quickly, and the girls started screaming.”

“From what I saw, the acceleration, especially when it’s ice like this… to be going that fast and, you know, a sled can’t stop.”

Elizabeth Angle was a center back for FC Dallas, recently sidelined by a broken ankle that required surgery. While she couldn’t join her team on the field, she held onto hope of returning to the game she loved.

“It is with deep despair and utter shock that Brian and I announce the passing of our beautiful 16-year-old girl, Elizabeth Marie Angle. She was a bright light, a fun spirit, a brave soul.”

“It was all taken away so abruptly in a sledding accident yesterday. Life is fleeting and precious. I take comfort that she had people helping her till the end.”

Millions of NFL fans saw how snow can turn into chaos during Sunday’s Patriots-Broncos game. Earlier this month, Swiss Olympic medalist Ueli Kestenholz was tragically killed by an avalanche in his native Switzerland.

Elizabeth Angle was a bright light, a talented athlete, and a beloved daughter. She was 16 years old. She had her whole life ahead of her.

Now her family mourns, her teammates grieve, and a community wonders how something so joyful could turn so tragic.
