Social Media Is Outraged Over Disgusting Joke About Lou Holtz’s Death

March 11, 2026

Legendary coach Lou Holtz passed away on Wednesday at age 89 after battling illness. He died surrounded by his family in Orlando, Florida.

Holtz spent 33 years coaching at the collegiate level. He spent 11 years with Notre Dame, posting a 100-30-2 record, and seven seasons with Arkansas, posting a 60-21-2 record.

In the wake of his death, Pardon My Take’s X account made a joke about Ohio State coach Ryan Day’s hypothetical reaction to Holtz’s passing

“Even Day would know this is distasteful. It was never that serious. Stop trying to have a moment and just offer condolences for one of the greatest coaches ever,” one fan said.

“Couldn’t be less funny. Get a grip,” another fan wrote.“Absolutely showing no class for a CFB legend. Barstool sucks,” a third fan added.“Not funny. Show some respect,” a fourth fan said.

Some laughed and wondered how long Pardon My Take had that meme ready. But the overwhelming sentiment was clear: this wasn’t the time or place.

The post remained up at the time of writing.Lou Holtz was one of college football’s greatest coaches. His passing deserved respect, not cheap jokes.

Pardon My Take missed the mark. And the internet let them know it.
