“It was really eye-opening,” Palmer told Parade. “I was so naïve to the size of the show and how big it was going to be.” He said he felt shocked by how many people worked behind the scenes.
Palmer will return as host for Season 22 of The Bachelorette, which premieres on March 22, 2026, on ABC. The new season will feature Taylor Frankie Paul.
Palmer said the near-death experience occurred while he was filming a season in Fiji. He recalled the incident in detail during his interview.
He explained that he watched Charity Lawson and Dotun Olubeko during a one-on-one date on a small island. After filming, he decided to stay back and spend some time alone. That decision turned dangerous.
A boat arrived just in time and rescued him. Palmer said the crew came to check on him at the last second. He walked away safe, but the experience left a strong impact.
