Trae Young has once again found himself at the center of this time after a surprising back-and-forth with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani that has added extra fuel to an already heated playoff atmosphere.

The exchange began when Mamdani jokingly blamed Young for skyrocketing ticket prices at Madison Square Garden.

With Knicks playoff tickets reportedly ranging from $380 to $400 for entry-level seats compared to around $80 in Atlanta the mayor quipped that it was “always important to blame Trae Young.”

What may have been intended as light humor quickly turned into something more when Young responded publicly.

The All-Star guard fired back with a cryptic but pointed message, reminding fans of what happened the last time a New York mayor mentioned him during the playoffs.

“Remember what happened the last time the Mayor of that City had my name in his mouth… #DontBlameMeWhenItHappensAgain,” Young wrote, referencing his dominant performance Knicks in 2021.

That series remains one of the most memorable moments of Young’s career. After then-mayor Bill de Blasio criticized his style of accused him of “hunting for fouls,” Young responded the best way possible on the court.

He averaged nearly 30 points and 10 assists per game, leading the Atlanta Hawks to a convincing 4-1 series victory over New York while embracing a villain role at Madison Square Garden.

Now, with playoff intensity building once again, Young’s latest comments have reignited that rivalry and added a personal edge to the matchup.

While the mayor’s comment may have been made in jest, Young’s response serves as a reminder: he thrives under pressure, especially when New York is involved.
