Hill recently revealed via X that she’s been forced to involve police after receiving threats over racially-motivated comments that were completely fabricated.

“These completely fake quotes are extremely dangerous for a lot of reasons. Among them, is that they actually put your safety at risk. I’ve received a number of threats and have even had to involve the police because of fake quotes posted online.”

Hill didn’t stop at sharing her experience. She’s calling for accountability from the platforms that allow this misinformation to spread.

“I want the owners of these platforms to be more serious about stopping these attacks, but I think they will only understand the danger if we pursue legal action. Who’s down?”

“I can finally agree with you on something. Tired of these ridiculous FB posts with what I feel is obviously AI generated garbage rage bait quotes. It needs to stop,” said another.

“Yes, 100%. Please do it. For the risks to you and it’s for the greater good,” a third comment read. Not everyone was sympathetic. Some suggested Hill’s past controversial statements made her a target.#

“When the fake quotes closely mirror some of the stuff you say or post on X, maybe you should reevaluate divisive comments that you’re actually putting out into the world,” one wrote.

“Imagine enough people believe a fake quote cause it is something you would say, gotta look in the mirror,” another shared.

Hill has been under fire recently for criticizing a female reporter, then backtracking after learning who she was. She’s said things over the years that many consider outrageous.

Fake quotes are dangerous. AI makes them easier to create. And when they’re designed to provoke racially charged, intentionally inflammatory they can put real people in real danger.

Jemele Hill has her critics. But no one deserves to be threatened over words they never said.
