NBC recently released the second episode of its documentary “The Quiet Work,” offering an inside look at Tatum’s recovery journey. One exchange with his doctor captured everything Celtics fans need to know.
Doctor: “Your calf looks great. You’re a young guy. Six weeks after you’re the best I’ve seen.”Tatum: “I ain’t coming back to be no role player, doc. Appreciate you.”

Tatum tore his ACL in last season’s playoffs, a devastating blow for a Celtics team with championship aspirations. Since then, Jaylen Brown has stepped up.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Tatum is now fully engaged in 5-on-5 scrimmages with the team. All signs point to a return before the regular season ends potentially as soon as Friday against Dallas.
“Tatum, it feels like it’s gonna be Friday vs Dallas. All signs are pointing to Friday, Dallas,” Simmons said on his podcast.

Stephen A. Smith recently advised Tatum to take his time and not rush back. It’s sound advice, especially given how well the Celtics have performed in his absence.

But Tatum’s mindset suggests he’s not just returning to help the team he’s returning to reclaim his place as a top-tier superstar.

Jayson Tatum has been watching from the sidelines for months. He’s seen his team thrive. He’s seen Jaylen Brown ascend. And he’s apparently decided that when he steps back on the court, there will be no adjustment period.
