As Patrick Reed made a strong push at the 2026 Masters, an unexpected storyline began trending again the unbelievable way he met his wife, Justine. It’s a tale Reed once shared in a 2021 Golf Digest interview.
Reed, the 2018 Masters champion, opened the 2026 tournament at three-under, for third place with Jason Day and Kurt Kitayama. Only Sam Burns and defending champion Rory McIlroy sit ahead of him at five-under.

But while golf fans are watching the drama unfold on the course, social media has turned its attention to Reed’s personal life.

Reed and Justine married in 2022 and share two children. Their story, however, began long before that and in a completely unexpected way. Reed explained that, back in college, he briefly went on a date with Justine’s.

“I was a freshman at Georgia, and Kris was at LSU,” Reed said. “We went on one date, and when I texted her after to make sure she got home safe, she never responded. So I reached out to Justine on Facebook.

What started as a simple follow-up message soon turned into something much bigger. Reed discovered that Justine was ambitious, driven, and juggling two degrees while preparing for a career in nursing.

Now, as Reed chases a second green jacket, he finds himself back in the spotlight for both his play and his unexpectedly romantic past.

If Reed can win again, he will join an elite group of multi-time Masters champions. Only 18 golfers have done it, with Scottie Scheffler the most recent member of that club.

Whether Reed claims another victory or not, his resurfaced love story has already stolen plenty of attention at Augusta National proving that sometimes the most surprising twists happen long before golfers.
