“The Water Was Brown” Jeff Teague Exposes the $1,800 Memphis Hotel Disaster That Made Him Sit Out

April 8, 2026

Jeff Teague has become the latest NBA figure to take a shot at Memphis, adding fuel to a growing wave of criticism aimed at the city’s player accommodations.

His experience isn’t an isolated one. Over the past few seasons, several players, including LeBron James, Draymond Green and Anthony Edwards, have openly complained about their unpleasant trips to Memphis.

NBA players spend much of their year on the road, and reliable hotels are essential for recovery, rest and maintaining peak conditioning. But for Teague, his stay in Memphis became an unforgettable nightmare.

He recalled checking into what was supposed to be a luxury hotel a room costing $1,800 per night only to find the water running brown when he tried to set up an ice bath. The shock was immediate.

“I poured the water and it was all brown,” Teague said on his podcast. “I showed them on video. I was like, ‘What is this, bro?’”

Teague’s account matches what other stars have described about their Memphis trips. Draymond Green has complained about accommodations there, and young star Anthony Edwards has voiced similar discomfort.

Even LeBron James recently said he dislikes playing in Memphis and suggested the franchise should consider relocating comments that triggered massive backlash from Memphis fans.

With Teague now stepping forward, the pattern feels harder for the league to ignore. His story supports the belief that these aren’t random, isolated incidents issues players have been dealing with for years.
