The chants quickly spread online, drawing criticism from fans, media personalities, and even members of the Yankees’ own broadcast team.
Longtime Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay didn’t hold back when addressing the behavior. On air, he condemned the chants as petty and embarrassing, saying they made the fanbase look childish.
“Yankee fans were chanting ‘Bleep Juan Soto.’ It’s an awful look,” Kay said. “You look like babies. You’re upset that Juan Soto left for the Mets. You make yourself small, jealous, someone chose another team.”
Kay emphasized that Soto made a business decision and did nothing wrong by taking a bigger contract with the Mets. Despite that, he has faced frequent boos and jeers from Yankees fans since leaving the Bronx.
New York aggressively pursued Soto during free agency, but ultimately, the Mets offered a richer, longer deal. Yankee fans were stunned and frustrated, of that emotion still hasn’t faded even months later.
But with the Yankees currently playing some of the best baseball in the league, many think it’s time for the fanbase to move on.
The only thing hurting them right now isn’t their performance it’s their own fans drawing negative attention.
