Quentin Grimes Furious After Paul George’s Brutal Airball Late In Game 2 Loss

May 8, 2026

The Philadelphia 76ers were desperately trying to steal Game 2 against the New York Knicks before everything completely fell apart in the final minute.

And judging by Quentin Grimes’ reaction afterward, he clearly was not happy with Paul George’s decision-making during the game’s biggest moment.

Paul George’s Costly Shot Attempt Sparks Frustration

With under 30 seconds remaining, the 76ers trailed by five points and still had a chance to make things interesting.

Paul George found himself behind the three-point line with defenders closing in quickly. Instead of resetting the offense or finding another option, the veteran forward launched a difficult three-pointer.

The result was disastrous.

George’s shot completely missed the rim, instantly draining momentum from Philadelphia’s comeback hopes inside Madison Square Garden.

Quentin Grimes Immediately Confronted Him

As soon as the play ended, Quentin Grimes appeared visibly frustrated.

Cameras caught Grimes immediately approaching George following the airball, clearly upset about the rushed shot selection during such a critical possession.

Many fans online quickly sided with Grimes, especially after replay angles showed him moving into a much more open lane before George forced the shot.

Fortunately, the heated exchange did not escalate further between the two teammates.

76ers Facing Serious Trouble Against Knicks

The Knicks eventually secured the 108-102 victory to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series.

Philadelphia struggled badly during the fourth quarter, especially without Joel Embiid, who missed the game due to ankle and hip injuries.

After the loss, George admitted the team “ran out of gas” late in the game and failed to generate quality offensive looks down the stretch.

Now the pressure shifts heavily onto the 76ers heading into Game 3 at Wells Fargo Center.

Another loss could completely bury their playoff hopes.
